"Green Hill seeks to provide convenient access to neo-agrarian culture and sustainable food to the surrounding Asheville area."
Mike Fortune
Mike Fortune is a 6th generation resident of the southern Appalachian highlands. Spending his youth raising christmas trees with his family in Brevard, Mike began organic farming shortly after college in 2002. He founded Green Hill Urban Farm in 2005, and has specialized in wholesale business with restaruants and distributors during that time. He has has managed numerous plots on six different and unique properties in four counties of WNC, trying to help supply the Asheville area's ever increasing demand for locally produced foods.
A self taught practicioner of many different genre's of farming, the school of hard knocks has been the testing lab for the Green Hill Urban Farm experiment. While taking part in a grant funded research project (Project EMMA), providing CSA's for downtown businesses in an effort to quantify the effects of access to local produce on health and well-being, Mike found a new future for his business in the CSA model.
