Green Hill Urban Farm feels responsible for directly providing for our community food needs. To move this desire fruition, we are reaching out to our farming neighbor's and bringing back a variety of local resources to the table. We have recently teamed up with Dillingham Family Farm to offer free-range eggs and lamb.
An eighth generation farm, established in 1796, Dillingham Family Farm has trasitioned from tobbaco farming roots into a viably sustainable model of agriculture that provides a diverse supply of resources including grass fed beef, grass fed sheep, free-range eggs, vegetables, baled hay, a vineyard, and a portable saw mill.
Justin Dillingham is the shepherd of a small haired breed of sheep named Katahdin which are known for their mild flavor. All lamb is grass fed with a supplementary diet of heirloom variety of corn that Justin grows himself. The free-range eggs come from Brown Highline and White Leghorn laying hens. As the Dillingham's want to provide optimal living conditions for all of their animals, they make certain their chickens have total access to the great outdoors. After a short test period, it is official, Torpedo, a 2 year old golden cascade/khaki campbell has become the newest member of the Green Hill flock. She has taught the flock to break dance, likes to quack, and enjoys 33 degree baths daily. Welcome Torpedo.
