"Green Hill seeks to provide convenient access to neo-agrarian culture and sustainable food to the surrounding Asheville area."
Bill Whipple
Bill Whipple, also known as Professor T. Bud Barkslip, maintains his fruit tree nursery at Green Hill Urban Farm. He annually grafts different variety of pears, apples, cherries, and more. Working in cooperation with the USDA, Bill is researching the viability of many unknown fruit tree varieties in our bio region. In an attmempt to reintroduce some long forgotten fruit trees which have been previously discarded due to cosmetics or poor shipping qualities, he plans on introducing the the successful varieties to the public. .
Barkslip's Micro nursery locally propagates the trees and grows them organically, assuring plant material that will have a strong resiliant start in a home or commercial orchard. Descriptions of the trees are available at www.barkslip.com.
Bill is an avid volunteer and advocate for community gardens and orchards. He has helped maintain the Edible Parks in town and has consulted numerous community gardens. He leads Barkslip's fruit school, teaching the public how to care for fruit and nut trees. He also offers his services to the private sector as a consultant and lecturer, using his 20 years of agricultural experience and permaculture training to help people live more abundantly and harmoniously with their environment.
